I saw a comparison like this in some other blog and thought it's funny that we complain about gas prices. But then again, we don't buy super glue by the gallon (maybe Red Bull). And there are alternative products to choose from. So maybe we should really consider alternative to gasoline when commuting. My electric motor bike seems to work out right for me around campus and around town.

I can't believe the cost of Olay!

I wonder how much is cost to make a gallon of that stuff. I bet it's not much more than what it costs to produce and bring to market a gallon of gas!!

@Double Eagle - Nice! I have been using printer ink to paint my house, but after seeing this I figured I should stop.

@Will - Nice! I remember when Spring Water was free at those pipes near cabins that are deep in the woods.

@The CPA - The post was meant to be a little bit tongue and cheek to help bring a smile or two while we adapt to the changing world of increased gas prices. You are welcome!

Happy Rock,

The levity in the prior two comments is duly noted. On a serious note, only four items on the list affect me. Bertolli olive oil, Tide 2X detergent, gasoline and spring water.

I can give up the olive oil, Tide 2X and spring water for cheaper alternatives. But I'm stuck with gasoline for my car to get to work and errands. Living in the country is wonderful but there is no public transportation. It's very hard to bring home several bags of groceries on a bicycle. The closest super market is 6 miles away. My work is 14 miles from my home. How do you ride a bicycle 14 miles to work in the rain and/or snow or dark? It now costs me about $60.00 to fill my gas tank (50% increase over the $40.00). Less than a year ago it cost me $40.00 (an increase of 50% over the $20.00). And about 2 to 3 years before that it cost $20.00.

Gasoline may be cheap relative to other products. But as a necessity it is the hidden tax on those of us who must use our vehicles for transportation.

Thanks for the post and allowing me to rant about the high cost of gasoline.

If I used 40 gallons of Loctite a week, I'd certainly be feeling that.
