@ALL

Thanks for all the responses they were awesome and not one person was arguing for debt! Alan the third commenter won. Thanks for all that participated.

I will compile all the responses(anonymously) into a post highlighting the different debt reduction goals!

I want to pay off my college loans so that I can save more. I want to have a cushion to get me through tough times, and to help me friends and family. I want to be able to give to important causes without my debt coming first. I want to be free to work at things I love and to create and travel if it comes to that, and to be able to pare down and be less dependent on the cash economy. I want to streamline my paperwork and simplify my life--getting three "bills" off my list would help with that. Those are pretty much my reasons for wanting to get out of debt.

I have been playing with Smarty Pig since I heard of it, but have not gotten really serious about it. I will have to pay a little more attention to it!

It's likely that I would be out of debt even if I was single. However, my primary motivation is so that my wife and our future children never have to know the pressures of living in debt. Even if something were to happen to me, they would have enough from insurance to be able to live in freedom.

We paid off our last debt besides our mortgage last year, and it was a very freeing feeling. We wanted to get out of debt so that we could stop making someone else richer, and instead work on our own net worth. What's the point in never getting ahead and making minimum payments for the rest of your life. Make extra payments, and get out of deb as fast as you can. You won't be sorry!

I have debt... mostly from college loans. $43,000 in college loans actually. I also have a mortgage, so I figure I'll be in debt for awhile.

I want to get out of debt because it keeps me awake at night... knowing I owe that money and knowing how long it will take until it's fully paid off... and knowing how it prevents me from being able to do the things I'd like to do, because the money is tied up in debt.

I want to get out of debt so that I can have a secure future and break the family cycle of relying on credit cards. I don't want to live like my parents.

I just turned 25 last month and recently realized how much debt I was in. I started reading MyMoneyBlog which lead me to another site, which lead me here.

I bought Quicken a month ago to help me track my expenses, debt and net worth. Since then I've been able to pay off one credit card and make a dent in another, I still have a long way to go though. Most of my debt is in the form of student loans however. Using the snowball debt reduction plan, I should have the credit card debt wiped out in three months, so I can then focus on my two student loans.

I've also recently realized the importance of having an emergency fund and have started saving what I can each week after budgeting. Only been doing this for about a month though. Looking forward to saving as much as I can so I don't have to worry about emergencies and unplanned expenses.

Thanks for listening. =)
