We cannot solve our problems using the same thinking or method we used when creating them, to paraphrase A.Einstein. Using credit cards to pay of debt and even worse credit card debt is somewhat irrational behavior in my opinion. As with most things in life moderation is key.Credit cards if used correctly can be a effective financial tool, but can also cause alot of headaches. Be informed on financial decisions you make. Heh, a bold move was certainly needed indeed. I recently ran all my credit cards through a shredder in front of my kids. Their eyes opened so wide it was hilarious. They didn’t understand how we were going to buy food and things anymore, and I had to explain how the cards make us borrow other people’s money instead of using our own. Now we’ve been using envelopes and they understand more of what’s going on.

And as a bonus, I won a contest after taking a pic and posting it on my site to share! It’s been a win-win-win for me!

Well…I understand the general disdain and uproar over credit usage but there really are many benefits to learning and developing credit responsibility.

It’s an integral part of sound financial planning in my opinion. Not only can cards that extend 0% interest be successfully used in emergency situations, cards also offer much of the convenience not provided by cash.

Of course, not everyone can handle credit responsibly.

Great post, I would agree many people need to take this action. Unfortunately, for most its to late and there in way over the head. Intentions are great but they only tell us what we want to hear. Action is where the true test begins.

But with plastic being more and more prevalent and necessary in an online world, why not change try a reloadable prepaid debit card, like the UPside Visa card. Unlike a debit card from your bank (which many allow overdrafts, getting you into even more debt), you are only able to spend what you put on the card. You are able to fund the card periodically or automatically with allowance schedules, from family, friends and employers. And with multiple plans to choose from, you can find a card that fits you and/or your family’s lifestyle, as you can get the card for yourself or one for family members that are either already in need of debt-help or you would like to teach healthy financial living to, like your kids (as young as 13 years of age).
